Do solar panels generate electricity in winter in Estonia?
Yes. Solar panels generate electricity in daylight, even in cold weather. Winter days are shorter and the sun is lower, so output is generally lower than in summer. Snow, clouds and shading also matter. That is why we look at monthly generation as well as the annual total.
How do I choose the right solar installation size?
Start with annual consumption and, if available, hourly data. Then assess usable space, orientation, shading and the grid connection. Matching annual generation to annual consumption does not mean all electricity is used on site as it is generated. Our calculator helps with an initial estimate.
What is the difference between kW, kWp and kWh?
kW measures power, such as inverter output. kWp is the rated power of solar panels under standard conditions. kWh measures energy, including consumption, generation and battery capacity. These measures complement each other but are not interchangeable.
How quickly do solar panels pay for themselves?
Payback depends on the investment, generation, self-consumption, purchase and export prices, and costs. A battery changes both the investment and how energy can be used. We therefore assess a specific design using clearly stated assumptions rather than a single payback period for everyone.
Can a battery be added later?
This depends on the existing inverter, battery compatibility and electrical installation. If you plan to add storage later, consider this when choosing the inverter. Explore battery solutions or send us your existing equipment models.
Do solar panels provide electricity during a grid outage?
A conventional grid-connected solar installation does not provide backup on its own. To use electricity during an outage, you need backup equipment compatible with the inverter and electrical installation. We clarify the required equipment and essential loads before selecting the system.
Are grants available for solar panels and batteries?
Support depends on the applicant, project and the terms of open programmes. Do not assume funding before checking whether your project qualifies. View the solar and battery grants overview.
What maintenance does a solar installation need?
Monitor system alerts and generation, and investigate unexpected changes. Inspection and maintenance needs depend on the equipment and site. Use qualified professionals for roof access and electrical inspections. Read about solar installation maintenance.
